Motivate yourself!
65
The ability to motivate yourself is an essential skill for success in both your working life, and your personal life too. However, it is a skill that is often difficult to cultivate and sustain.
This article lists 7 tips to help raise your motivation and keep it strong and lasting.
Collect inspiring quotes
There’s nothing like a great quote to lift our spirits! So browse the internet and find a few that appeal to you personally. Then keep them close at hand for when you’re in need of a pick me up.
Be spontaneous!
Over analysing a task can be a real motivation killer. It drains your energy and leaves very little in the tank for doing the actual task itself. So keep things spontaneous! Throw caution to the wind and jump right in! You’ll feel as though a weight has been lifted off your shoulders and your motivation begin to increase.
Get enough sleep
If you look after your body, your body will look after you; and as cliche as that is - it’s true nonetheless. So get in a few early nights each week to give your body a chance to rest. You’ll feel much more motivated to get stuff done.
Remain upbeat!
We tend to be overly serious when completing a task that‘s important to us. However, this often leaves us prone to stress; and when we’re stressed, we’re prone to worry; and when we’re worried, our energy levels drop; and when our energy levels drop, our motivation drops too… and so on, and so on… Therefore, try not to be too 'full-on', and remember to keep smiling.
Drop perfectionism
Seeking perfection does very little to sustain motivation. Nothing in life is perfect, and never will be. So don’t exert unnecessary pressure on yourself by chasing it. You’ll simply waste time and energy trying to attain the impossible.
Make a plan
Not knowing exactly what a task involves often kerbs our motivation. In such cases, devise a step-by-step plan to make things clearer. Once you have a better understanding of what lies ahead, your motivation will increase markedly.
Those people who learn to motivate themselves effectively have a significant advantage over those who do not. Motivation - the ability to initiate and sustain purposeful and targeted effort towards a specified outcome - is the foundation skill for success upon which all others rely.
So set yourself a personal goal today to strengthen your motivation, and see how much you can achieve.

Hi there, Tensteps! Wonderful advice! Remaining upbeat and dropping perfectionism would be my faves here :-)
Hi tensteps! Good advice here. I think you and I are under the same "motivational" wing since joining hubpages. I've written 8 since December, and you were kind enought to post a comment on my "purrfect" hub about my cats!
Keep up the great work!
